My Child…My Treasure

To All Parents:

“I’ll lend you for a little time, A Child of Mine,” He said.

“For you to love the while he lives And mourn for when he is dead. It may be six or seven years, Or twenty two or three But will you, ’til I call him back, Take care of him for Me?  He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, And should his stay be brief, You’ll have his loving memories As solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, Since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn, I’ve looked the wide world over  In My search for teachers true, And from all the throngs that crowd Life’s lanes I’ve selected you. Now will you give him all your love, Not think in labor vain, Nor hate Me when I come to call     To take him back again?”

I fancied that I heard them say, “Dear Lord, Thy will be done.” For all the joy Thy child shall bring, The risk of grief we’ll run. We’ll shelter him with tenderness, We’ll love him while we may. And for the happiness we’ve known. Forever grateful stay; But should the angels call for him  Sooner than we’ve planned  We’ll brave the bitter grief That comes and try to understand.”

I pray that I will remember that my children are a treasure from the Lord,…

and they are His.

  1. Amy,
Wonderful post! What an encouragement for us to focus on the treasure that we have in our children. Thanks for the reminder.
(sorry for my almost non-existent presence here…my laptop shut down for the last time. Well, hopefully not, but it is not usable at the moment and my WONDERFUL husband is sharing his computer with me.)
Just wanted to to know what a joy it is to read these posts!
    God’s blessings!

  2. Amy good thoughts? I know that my kids are grown and own their own now but I don’t think that as parents we will ever give up reminding our kids about their responsibility as a believer ! Blessings ! Ron.

  3. Amy,
The poem by Edgar A. Guest is truly wonderful. It is always good to be reminded of the gifts God has given us. Especially our children.
And, now for my wife and I eight living grandchildren. One of those will join us in May.
We even thank the Lord for the two that went to be with Him last year. We never knew them, but look forward to meeting them soon.

  4. Thank you all for your gracious comments.

Janice, good to have you as always.

Bluecollarparent, Hope you are getting settled in your new home and place of ministry. We sure will miss seeing you all the time.

Rrbj and Tim, I know you are both enjoying your grandchildren. From what my parents tell me they are a whole lot of fun.

Andrea, Welcome. I am glad you came by to visit.

Dana, Thanks and good to “see” you.:)
